Summer Youth Employment

The five Connecticut workforce boards coordinate regional Summer Youth Employment Programs that blend state, municipal, and philanthropic funding to provide paid work experience and work readiness training each summer. In 2019, 2,820 participated across Connecticut.

Programs provide “earn and learn” opportunities during the summer, increase motivation in school by providing context to academic work through workplace experience and employment skills, and offer mentoring and readiness training.

Research shows that even limited youth work experience significantly impacts educational outcomes, behavior, well-being, and future work prospects.
