DID YOU KNOW?

Connecticut’s 5 Workforce Development Boards are part of a national network of about 550 boards.

The Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act is the governing federal legislation that funds services for providing employment and training to help dislocated workers, low-income adults and youth and young adults prepare for and find employment. Each board in Connecticut also partners with the CT Department of Labor and the Department of Social Services to deliver Jobs First Employment Services to Temporary Aid to Needy Families (TANF) recipients to help them achieve self-sufficiency. The boards now also work closely with the Office of Workforce Strategy and serve on the Governor’s Workforce Council, both created by Gov. Ned Lamont.

$160 Million Boost

As independent 501c3 non-profits, each board in CT also pursues discretionary funding from federal, state and philanthropic sources to offer special programs targeted at a particular population, sector or occupation(s). As a result, the boards have brought into Connecticut $95 million in discretionary funds and another $65 million as partners on projects since 2010.
